Dive in and sea
By Anna Stevens
The Adventure: Scuba diving andsnorkeling lessons through MDC Sports offer a convenient way to get your feet wet
in these growing sports. And while MDC is now open only by appointment, they still offer snorkeling equipment and lessons with many difficulty levels to choose from; many families
take lessons together (children must be at least 8 years old). Your lesson will start in the shallow end of the pool where you will get comfortable with the equipment and the
water. When you feel ready, instructors will move you to deeper water where you will work on your deep water snorkeling skills (depending on age).
The Adventure Continues: First dive not going to be your last? MDC sports also offers water diver certifications and more in-depth dives, which your beginner's class will lend credits to. With your new snorkel and scuba skills, a new underwater world will be open to you; you can scope out fish in the waters of Florida or explore shipwrecks right here in Minnesota’s Lake Superior.
Where You Go: June and July, Rochester Recreation Center; August, Soldier's Field outdoor pool. Call to schedule your classes.
What You Pay: "Discovery" lesson lasting 4-5 hours, $45. Full scuba certification, $594 plus equipment rental.
