Fish with flies
By Anna Stevens
The Adventure: Fly fishing lessons are a great outdoor experience for people interested in the mystique of casting with flies. All fly rods, reels and flies will be provided by instructor Dave Anderson of southeastern Minnesota's On the Fly guide service, who notes that getting lessons is a good way to be introduced to the sport. Instruction from Anderson will help you master your cast and get a handle on the techniques needed to actually catch a fish. Fishing patterns and the weather will determine which area stream or creek will be your fishing spot for your day of guided fly fishing.
You'll Catch On: Anderson says that most people are drawn to fly fishing for the chance to be outside doing a challenging, quiet activity. He also notes, “Whether you are new to the sport or a veteran fly fisher, you learn something new every time you go out.”
Where You Go: Each trip includes round-trip transportation to and from your fishing spot. Anderson will meet you in Rochester and bring you back to town.
What You Pay: One day/one person fishing trips on weekends, $225; one day/two person weekend trips, $400; summer weekday outings from 3:30 p.m. until dark, $125.
