The tastiest catch

Parmesan Walleye at Canadian Honker

By Megan Malugani

The dish: Parmesan Walleye
The place: Canadian Honker, 1201 Second St. SW, 282-6572
The price: About $15

What you’re eating: Fresh walleye is coated and pounded out in flour and fresh parmesan. Then it is pan fried for 12 to 15 minutes. “The biggest thing is that the steam coming up keeps the walleye moist,” says Nick Powers of the Honker. The dish is served with a choice of potato (baked, famous au gratin, mashed with gravy) or rice pilaf. You also get a soup or salad.

Why you’ll love it: “It’s really a big bang for your buck, because the filet is really big and to throw those extras on top makes it a great deal,” Powers says. The flavor is a favorite of many repeat customers, he adds. “The parmesan taste puts it on a different level. Rather than just eating it plain, you can get a parmesan taste that really complements the fish.” Powers notes that the parmesan walleye is available seven days a week for lunch and dinner, and it is the top selling item on the Honker’s dinner menu.
