The year: 2007. Our Best New Restarant Winner: Green Mill

What We Wrote Then: “What started with the Green Mill Inn, a St. Paul soda fountain in the 1930s, has grown into 30-plus pizza-focused locations across the Midwest. Rochester’s 6,800 square foot, 250-seat restaurant opened in August with a 120-item menu, including its award-winning pizza (Green Mill has captured Mpls. St. Paul Magazine’s Best Gourmet Deep Dish Pizza category 10 of the past 15 years) and a Green Mill first—a raw bar (with chilled seafood like calamari and oysters).”

How They’re Doing Now: With a variety of daily drink specials (and a Happy Hour that features $2 Pabst tall boys), game nights (Sunday and Monday nights are Nintendo Wii nights) and that raw bar (see above), Green Mill does a good job of catering to the bar crowd.

What Those In The know say: They all say the same thing: “It’s Green Mill. You know what you’re going to get.”
