Anchors Away

Amy Kuns

By Amy Hahn

Amy Kuns

THEN:
Kuns, an Iowa native, started at KXLT in 2003 as the main anchor of the weeknight News@9. In 2004, she began anchoring the new half-hour news block called the KTTC News Center@5 in addition to her gig as KXLT’s anchor. Kuns and KTTC parted ways in December 2007.

NOW: Kuns began a new adventure in broadcast news in April, 2008. She packed up her bags and her life, moving across the country to the state of Washington. She started a new phase in her career by accepting a job at CBS affiliate KEPR in the city of Pasco. She anchors the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts and also reports for the 11 o’clock newscast.

ROCHESTER MEMORIES: Kuns recalls one story she particularly loved. It was about a local group of the national Red Hat Society. Kuns remembers being very moved by the friendships the woman in the group had formed. “They’re more than fair weather friends,” says Kuns. “They’re there for each other through thick and thin.” Her job didn’t feel like work that day because “they were so much fun to talk to, their positive spirit was contagious.”

Although excited about starting a new life in a new state, Kuns says she enjoyed living in the Med City. “I liked to call it a mini-Minneapolis because it has everything the Twin Cities has, but it is a smaller town. I love that about Rochester.”
